Anti-Fog Hard Coat Material

Anti-fog hard coat film for glass and acrylic substrates made from a combination of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and oligoethylene glycol (OEG).

Advantages

  • Hard coat film that has anti-fog properties, hard coat properties, and water resistance.

Background and Technology

Anti-fog technology, which prevents glass and mirrors from fogging up, is widely used in automobile window glasses, show windows, glasses, goggles, helmets, food packaging, medical equipment, etc. There are various types of antifogging film materials, such as water repellent/hydrophilic, inorganic materials (titanium oxide, etc.)/hydrophilic polymer materials, but hydrophilic polymers are the mainstream from the viewpoint of usage environment range and film forming processability. . However, many hydrophilic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) are soft and their transparency and anti-fogging properties gradually decrease due to scratches or abrasion. We previously developed and reported an anti-fog hard coat film with hard coat properties using POSS, but the problem was that it had low water resistance.
In order to solve these problems, we combined POSS and OEG to achieve hard coating properties (pencil scratch test 5-6H), water resistance (no swelling or cracking after 1 hour), and anti-fog properties (water vapor We have developed a new anti-fog hard coat film that does not fog for 10 seconds after exposure. Furthermore, we developed a coating method for acrylic substrates.

Current Stage and Next Step

  • Currently, we have developed a new anti-fog hard coat film, its synthesis method, and coating method for resin substrates, and have analyzed its physical properties and characteristics.
  • We are looking for collaborative partner companies to work on the practical development of this anti-fog hard coat film.
