Advantage and Core Benefit
- Realization of stronger friction spot welding than ever before in the joining of metal and resin materials.
- Even low pressures of 200 kgf or less can be used for strong joining, making it possible to reduce the weight and size of the joining equipment.
- By applying it to small joining devices, the number of sites where it is used can be expected to expand.
Background and Technology
The technology of joining metals, such as aluminum alloys, and resin-based composites, such as CFRP, by frictional heat, such as friction spot welding, has been attracting attention. The strength of friction spot welding strongly depends on the temperature distribution of the welded surface, and the strength can be improved by controlling the temperature of the welded surface evenly in the range of 220°C to 340°C and enlarging the welded area.
This joining tool has a cylinder or concentric circle shape for the contact surface (right figure), which results in a homogenized proper temperature, interlocking of the interface shape, and improved joining strength. In addition, it is possible to apply a weight of 200 kgf or less during the joining process, making it possible to reduce the weight and size of the joining equipment.
