Conventional bone regeneration methods include autologous bone grafts, artificial bone (bone substitute), allogeneic\/xenogeneic bone grafts, BMP + scaffolding materials, and cell therapy, but each method has issues such as invasiveness, bone induction, rejection, treatment costs, and safety. In Europe and the United States, BMP-2 has been approved and is used in combination with absorbable collagen sponge as a scaffolding material. However, the treatment costs are high, and high-concentration administration is required because BMP is released quickly and diffuses, and problems such as swelling and ectopic ossification have been pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>It is known that BMP binds to polysulfated glycans (low molecular weight heparin or chondroitin sulfate E), and that aspartic acid peptide (Asp-8) specifically binds to bone. We have developed a molecule (LMWH-D8) that combines polysulfated glycans and Asp-8 by utilizing these properties.
